Oberoi Malekat
Announced, not yet sailing. Operated by Oberoi Hotels & Resorts.
Not verified as sailing checked 12 Sep 2026
We have not confirmed that this vessel is currently in service. That is a statement about our checking, not a claim that it has stopped.
Our view
Two launch dates have already passed and Oberoi still has no page for this boat. What is published describes a fourteen guest sailing boat, which would be a different product from the Philae and Zahra rather than a smaller version of them. There is nothing here to assess yet and we would not take the late 2026 date at face value.
Who it suits
- Travellers who want Oberoi service on a boat small enough to be a dahabiya
- Advisors tracking incoming Nile capacity at the top of the market
Who it does not suit
- Anyone who needs a date, the launch has moved from October 2025 to late 2025 to late 2026 and has not arrived
- Travellers who want to read about it, Oberoi has no page for this vessel and the URL we were given returns a 404
- Anyone who wants a price, Oberoi keeps rates inside a booking engine that has no entry for an unlaunched ship
- Guests who want figures for this hull, almost everything published covers Malekat and Melouk together
- Service style
- Announced Oberoi sailing boat of 14 guests, described by every source including Oberoi as a sailing vessel rather than a motor cruiser, with no launch date that has held.
- Nearest alternative: The Oberoi Philae
- The same company at opposite ends of its own range. Philae is a 44 guest river ship with a lift and a pool, sailing now. Malekat is a 14 guest sailing boat with a plunge pool that has not launched. See its record →

What we could not establish
Every empty cell above has a reason. These are the reasons for this vessel, written down at the time the record was made, including the places where published sources contradict each other.
Every source that describes the hull calls it a dahabiya or a sailboat, not a motor ship. Oberoi's own wording is "our sailboats". Egyptian Streets calls it a two-masted Egyptian sailing boat. NileShips lists it as S/B. This looks like a dahabiya rather than a motor cruiser, and it is much smaller than the Zahra and Philae.
The operator's own page at https://www.oberoihotels.com/the-oberoi-malaket/ returns HTTP 404. There is no dedicated Oberoi page for this vessel. Everything official comes from one combined Melouk and Malekat entry on Oberoi's upcoming hotels page.
Almost every figure is published for the pair, not for this hull alone. Where a source treats the two vessels together, that is noted in the relevant entry.
The launch date has slipped twice. Oberoi announced January 2025 for an October 2025 launch, then revised to late 2025, and now says late 2026.
No rate is published anywhere. Oberoi keeps rates inside its booking engine, and there is no booking engine entry for a vessel that has not launched. NileShips shows price on request. The starting rate, the top rate and the charter rate are therefore unknown.
NileShips gives a build year of 2025, which contradicts the current late 2026 launch date. We have not recorded either figure, as neither can be defended at present.
No source we read gives the flag and registration, the crew count, the deck count, wifi provision, accessibility details, departure days, the operating season, the charter minimum, booking channels, the minimum age policy, or any refit year.
Recorded 12 September 2026. If you can settle any of these, tell us and we will correct the record in public.
