Oberoi Melouk

Announced, not yet sailing. Operated by Oberoi Hotels & Resorts.

Not verified as sailing  checked 12 Sep 2026

We have not confirmed that this vessel is currently in service. That is a statement about our checking, not a claim that it has stopped.

Our view

Oberoi has announced two sailing boats and published one line about them. The launch dates have slipped repeatedly and the class itself is unclear, with every source outside Oberoi calling these dahabiyas. There is no ship to assess and no date we would rely on.

Who it suits

  • Travellers who want Oberoi service on a boat small enough to be a dahabiya
  • Advisors tracking incoming Nile capacity at the top of the market

Who it does not suit

  • Anyone who needs a date, five platforms gave five different answers and Oberoi's own wording has moved twice
  • Travellers who want to read about it, the only operator mention is one combined line on the upcoming hotels page
  • Anyone who wants a price, Oberoi publishes none and the agents say price on request
  • Guests relying on the four and six night itineraries, those come from February 2025 coverage written when the debut was still late 2025
Service style
Announced Oberoi sailing boat of 14 guests, sold in the same breath as Malekat and never separately, with no dedicated operator page.
Nearest alternative: Oberoi Malekat
They are the same announcement and almost every published figure covers both hulls at once. Nothing we found distinguishes one from the other, including the launch date. See its record →
Everything in this box is opinion, not a sourced fact, and we say what it rests on: desk research only, by Christoph Paterok, 12 September 2026. Nobody here has sailed this vessel. Read it as a careful reading of the published record, which is what it is.

What we could not establish

Every empty cell above has a reason. These are the reasons for this vessel, written down at the time the record was made, including the places where published sources contradict each other.

Every source we read calls these vessels dahabeyas or dahabiyas. Oberoi itself calls them sailboats, and one of the alternative spellings on record is "Melouk Dahabeya." The vessel is filed here as an announced motor cruiser, but that classification sits in tension with how every source, including Oberoi, describes it.

Oberoi has no dedicated page for Melouk. The only mention on the operator's own site is a combined entry, "The Oberoi Melouk & Malekat, Luxury Nile Dahabeyas," at https://www.oberoihotels.com/upcoming-hotels/. We checked four plausible vessel URLs following the pattern used by Oberoi's Philae and Zahra pages. All four returned a 404 redirect. The operator's page listed for this vessel is therefore the Oberoi homepage, not a vessel-specific page. Malekat is being researched separately. Almost every value available for Melouk is published by sources for the two hulls as a pair, and is recorded on that basis.

No rate is published anywhere for this vessel. Oberoi publishes rates only inside its booking engine, and that engine does not list Melouk. Third-party agents show "price on request." The starting rate, the top rate, and the charter rate are all unknown.

We did not find the flag and registration, crew count, deck count, wi-fi provision, accessibility information, departure days, operating season, charter terms, minimum age policy, or a breakdown of inclusions and exclusions. No booking URL exists.

The four- and six-night voyage lengths come from launch coverage published in February 2025, written when the debut was still expected in late 2025. These figures should be treated as provisional until Oberoi publishes an itinerary page.

The 55-metre length figure rests on a single travel agency blog. No second source confirms it, and we did not find it on the operator's own site.

Recorded 12 September 2026. If you can settle any of these, tell us and we will correct the record in public.
