Roman

Dahabiya. Operated by Nour El Nil.

Sailing, two sources  checked 12 Sep 2026

Our view

high comfort

Roman is the cheapest way into this fleet's 60 metre boats and gives up one year of age against Poppee for 500 euros. Everything on the record comes from the operator's own pages, because no aggregator carries the boat and the guest reviews are pooled across all nine hulls. That is a limit on our evidence rather than a mark against the boat.

Who it suits

  • Families of four, the Deluxe Suites take four guests
  • Travellers who want a 60 metre hull at the lower end of the fleet's newer half
  • Anyone who wants a fixed weekly departure day
  • Groups of up to 24 taking the whole boat

Who it does not suit

  • Anyone who came for quiet, 24 guests is the fullest this fleet gets
  • Wheelchair users and anyone who cannot manage stairs
  • Travellers who want independent evidence, no aggregator lists Roman and the only guest reviews sit under a single listing covering all nine boats
  • Anyone who wants to know whether tips are included, two operator FAQ articles updated in the same month disagree
  • Guests who want a pool, none is published for this boat or any other in the fleet
Service style
Family run crewed sailing boat leaving Esna on Tuesdays for a fixed five night route, sold direct only, with one guide for the whole boat.
The cabin we would book
A Deluxe Suite. It takes four guests and is the only room type in this fleet built for a family rather than a couple.
Nearest alternative: Poppee
Two nearly identical boats a year apart, both around 60 metres with 10 rooms, 24 guests and Deluxe Suites. Roman is the 2023 build at 6,300 euros, Poppee the 2024 build at 6,800. See its record →
Everything in this box is opinion, not a sourced fact, and we say what it rests on: desk research only, by Christoph Paterok, 12 September 2026. Nobody here has sailed this vessel. Read it as a careful reading of the published record, which is what it is.
Published rate
€6,300 per cabin, whole cruise

Shown in the currency the operator published it in, on the basis the operator sells it on. We do not convert currencies and we do not divide a package total into a nightly rate, because both would produce a number nobody quoted. See how this compares on the rates page.

Accessibility notes
The operator states its dahabiyas are multi level boats connected by stairs with no elevators on board, and that crew will help guests move between decks. It states many Egyptian sites have uneven ground and stairs and that very few offer wheelchair access. It states it has hosted guests using crutches and wheelchairs. This is a fleet wide statement and nothing specific to Roman is published.

What we could not establish

Every empty cell above has a reason. These are the reasons for this vessel, written down at the time the record was made, including the places where published sources contradict each other.

The operator's own page for Roman is at https://www.nourelnil.com/boats-roman/ and the page title confirms the vessel name.

Hull dimensions are disputed within the operator's own site. The Roman boat page states 59m x 9m. The fleet index and the search card both state 60m x 8m. Two of the three surfaces carry the 60m x 8m figure, but the discrepancy is unresolved.

Tips are listed as included on the search card and in one FAQ, and as not included in a second FAQ. Both FAQs carry an August 2026 update date. The contradiction stands.

No refit year is published anywhere on the site. An air conditioning FAQ describes a full fleet upgrade to solar-powered air conditioning but gives no year for when this took place.

No crew count, deck count, pool, flag of registration or charter rate is published for Roman or for any other vessel in the fleet.

The operator publishes only a starting per-room rate. No upper rate is given.

Cabin count and the published rate rest entirely on Nour El Nil's own pages. No independent listing of Roman was found. One aggregator, i-escape, returned an HTTP 403 response and could not be read. No other aggregator names the vessel.

Guest reviews for Roman exist on TripAdvisor, including one with a May 2026 travel date, but TripAdvisor aggregates all nine Nour El Nil boats under a single listing, so the reviews cannot be attributed to Roman alone.

Recorded 12 September 2026. If you can settle any of these, tell us and we will correct the record in public.
