Zein Nile Chateau

Dahabiya. Operated by A&K Sanctuary (Abercrombie & Kent).

Sailing, two sources  checked 12 Sep 2026

Our view

high comfort

Twenty two crew for twelve guests is the number that defines this boat and it is A&K's own figure. It is also the only vessel in their Egypt fleet they will not print a price for, which tells you it is sold by conversation rather than by rate card. Settle the propulsion question before you book if sailing matters to you, because A&K sells the image of a sailing boat and does not confirm that it sails.

Who it suits

  • A family or a group of up to 12 taking the whole boat
  • Travellers who want a dahabiya with A&K's guiding behind it
  • Anyone who wants a crew almost twice the size of the guest list
  • Families, no minimum age is stated

Who it does not suit

  • Anyone who wants a published price, this is the only A&K boat in Egypt whose rate panel reads please enquire
  • Solo travellers and couples who do not want to charter, the boat is sold mainly whole
  • Wheelchair users, the four deluxe cabins are on the lower deck and the sun deck is above with no lift
  • Anyone who needs a fixed departure day, A&K's own dated departures fall on no weekly pattern and the third party sellers contradict each other
  • Guests who assumed it sails under canvas, one journalist reports it is pulled by a tug and A&K does not say either way
Service style
Six cabin sailing boat with 22 crew, sold mainly as a whole boat charter with bespoke rather than fixed itineraries.
The cabin we would book
One of the two signature suites, and the Farouk Suite of the two. A&K's own fleet page and vessel page disagree on how many suites exist, so confirm the category name on your invoice.
Nearest alternative: Kazazian Arax
Both are small crewed boats sold as whole boat charters with roughly one crew member per guest. Zein takes 12 and comes with A&K's guiding and its rate on enquiry. Arax takes 18, is newer, and has a published charter figure of 180,000 dollars. See its record →
Everything in this box is opinion, not a sourced fact, and we say what it rests on: desk research only, by Christoph Paterok, 12 September 2026. Nobody here has sailed this vessel. Read it as a careful reading of the published record, which is what it is.
Published rate
£724 per person, per night

Shown in the currency the operator published it in, on the basis the operator sells it on. We do not convert currencies and we do not divide a package total into a nightly rate, because both would produce a number nobody quoted. See how this compares on the rates page.

Notable history
A&K describes Zein Nile Chateau as the first luxury dahabiya of its kind on the Nile, built as a recreation of the sailing boats used by travellers in the 19th century. Third party ship listings give a build year of 2010. It is the smallest vessel in the A&K Sanctuary fleet, with six cabins and a maximum of 12 guests, and is sold mainly as a whole boat charter. All six cabins and suites, the bathrooms and the lounge have been refurbished. A&K gives no date for that work and one third party listing gives 2025. The Farouk Suite carries a replica of a letter from King Farouk to his mother.

What we could not establish

Every empty cell above has a reason. These are the reasons for this vessel, written down at the time the record was made, including the places where published sources contradict each other.

No refit year is confirmed. A&K describes the vessel as freshly revamped and newly refreshed but gives no date on its website or in its riverboat guide. The only year found anywhere is 2025, given by Small Ship Travel, and nothing corroborates it.

No rate is published by the operator. A&K's rates panel for this vessel says "Please enquire for rates", unlike Sun Boat IV and Nile Seray, which carry full published tables. The only current figure we found is from Steppes Travel, which lists GBP 2,895 per person for a four-night charter based on 12 guests. That is the only source for the starting rate. A whole-boat figure of GBP 34,740 follows from that multiplication, but no source publishes that figure, so the charter rate is not listed here.

Propulsion is genuinely unclear. A&K presents the vessel as a sailing boat, and it is a two-masted dahabiya with no propulsion engine, but a journalist writing for Citizen Femme reports that it is pulled by a tugboat.

The deck count is uncertain. ETL Travel states two decks. A&K's own guide describes cabins on a lower deck, a lounge and dining room, and a teak sun deck above, which reads as three levels. A&K's deck plan is a flat image and the text within it cannot be read, so the count is not listed here.

No departure days are listed. Third-party sellers claim fixed weekly patterns that contradict each other. ETL Travel states three nights ex Aswan every Wednesday and four, five, and seven nights ex Luxor every Saturday. Nile Cruise Booking states every Monday from Luxor and every Friday from Aswan. A&K's own dated departures for journey MID018 follow no weekly pattern. A&K states that itineraries are bespoke.

No award is documented. A&K repeatedly uses the phrases award-winning cuisine and award-winning onboard chef but names no award anywhere.

A&K's fleet page states that Zein Nile Chateau has six suites. The vessel page and the riverboat guide both state two signature suites and four deluxe cabins. Every third-party source agrees with the vessel page and the guide, making the fleet page the outlier.

This is the only dahabiya in the A&K fleet and the only vessel in that fleet for which A&K publishes no price. Everything else about it is documented in unusual detail in the riverboat guide fact tables.
